Porsche Pajun Sedan Could Appear at Frankfurt Auto Show with Electric Powertrain

Porsche Small Sedan (artist rendering: Auto Bild/Larson

It’s no secret that Porsche is planning to build a smaller-than-Panamera sedan-ish thing to compete with the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-class, and Jaguar XF, among others, although the plans for actually when Porsche plans to launch that car, nicknamed “Pajun” (PA-namera JUN-ior, get it?) are as clear as mud. But a report in the French L’Automobile Magazine avers that the car will make its first appearance in hatchback form as a concept at the Frankfurt auto show this September.

The L’Automobile report further alleges that the concept will be about a foot shorter than the Panamera (4.8 meters versus just over five meters for the Panamera) and will be propelled by rear-mounted electric motors supplied with power by under-floor batteries, with enough range (250 – 300 miles) to take on the Tesla Model S. Should the electric powertrain make it to production, it would become Porsche’s first-ever pure electric car. Speaking of production, speculation has been all over the place, but if we were betting folk, we would say don’t expect the Pajun to appear in any form—gasoline, diesel, hybrid, or electric—until at least 2017.
