Automatic Car Starters – Which kit should I chose?

In this article we’ll take a look at some of the less pricey systems on the market. Simple systems, that will allow you to remotely start your car — just what it says on the tin. For more advanced systems, have a look at Viper’s automatic car starter kits.

Let’s get started!

Avital 4103LX Remote Start System with Two 4-Button Remote

Gary Williams from Michigan writes:

This is just what I needed!

It wasn’t until my first winter in Michigan that I decided the need for an automatic car starter was necessary, and the Avital 4103X Remote Starter System was just what I needed. Originally offered through Prime Service—which was another added bonus to Avital! The product offered exactly what I needed: a car system which could act as both a door lock, and an automatic starter system for my car.

I have a 2010 Ford Ranger that I traded my last car in for when I found out I was moving: it’s a nifty truck to have, especially in a few feet of snow. Well, time to look at Automatic Car Starters.

Now you shouldn’t be fooled right off the bat—if you’re looking for protection with anti-theft devices then don’t look this way. A system currently on sale for $51 dollars on Prime is going to give you exactly what you’re looking for and not an inch more, so if you’re ready to drop the extra coin for a built-in alarm, you might want to go with a higher model that offers actual anti-theft. For me though, given the neighborhood I had been living in, the kind of place where people don’t even lock their doors, I found that the Avital model was more than enough to suit my needs.

All it took was a basic install and my car was up and running on its own with no muss, no fuss. In fact the feature I love the most is that if I don’t include the key into the ignition, the car won’t go any further when attempting to switch into gear… just cuts off automatically; Overall happy with my purchase.

“You get what you pay for, and a little more, I think!”, Eric N., one of my reader writes.

I’ve noticed a lot of people having issue with this product, and becoming overall disappointed in the reviews that they were reading. Well, I bought this product because I needed an automatic starter. I live in South Dakota; the winters are so harsh at times that I don’t even want to stand outside my door. So I look on Amazon and find the Auto Page system, with all its fancy gadgets that make me feel like I’m a kid being explained the finer points of life… I just don’t get what half this stuff does, but this car starter does what it promises!

Now a lot of people are looking for self-installation for their Automatic Car Starters and from my understanding the installation is easy enough on its own—but I’m no tech savvy person, right? I buy this, I hand it to my mechanic, I ask ‘hey doc, do this for me!’

$50 bucks from my mechanic, $116 bucks for the device itself and about a few hours of my time, and I was home free… I use the buttons as I need them—car starter, light activators, etc.—and it hasn’t failed me a single time since my use.

Honestly my car feels like it runs a heck of a lot better to me, but then again I’m not a mechanic.

Don’t fool yourself either… and I can’t stress this enough! Why this review? Because people need to know—don’t do something like this on your own! If you’re about to make a drastic change to your car you need to expect that you’re going to spend a little extra something on the side… accept it, embrace it, move on!

I would honestly spend the extra money no matter what, any day of the week, than try and have someone hold my new product together by spit and glue and a little duct tape any time. So do yourself the favor—if you get one of these, and you won’t be disappointed, have it professionally installed… not that Grandpa can’t be trusted, but Grandpa can’t be trusted.

AutoPage Vehicle Security System 3-Channel with Car Alarm and Remote Start – C3-RS665

Another one of my readers, Sarah, sent me this via Google+ and I’ve posted it here with permission from her.

I never found myself disappointed

Simple key fob functions that do what they were meant to do, and a spare fob in the event that the first one is locked in—never locked my keys in my car, knock on wood fella—it even has a starter disable with relay and socket that makes this one of the best of the lines of Automatic Car Starters I’ve seen, with a one year manufacturer’s warranty that covers any wear and tear on the product itself.

Now the one thing people should remember—especially ‘special’ ones who think it’s a smart idea to install this on a manual transmission vehicle—is that manuals usually don’t really support automatic starters. It is possible to install — but you won’t get the same easy start as an automatic. You need to be physically in the car, or set it in “remote start mode” before leaving the car, and I know. I owned a manual transmission Volkswagen back in the day in a winter state. Sometimes you just need to brave the cold and suck it up.

But once you’re done sucking it up and you find yourself in an automatic, the next step is to get an auto starter for it. As Automatic Car Starters go, this brand is easy, it’s cheap, and most mechanics will love you for bringing in such a simple but useful system at that.

I always trust my mechanic professionals whenever having anything new installed, because that’s the ‘smart’ thing to do, but beyond that I just want something plain and simple; for it to work. I buy the product, I have it installed, and in exchange it works and does the things it promises it would do. Everyone’s happy and I don’t have to go on a rampage with the sales guy, right?

Well trust and be assured, this product is going to get you there and back again. If you live in a winter state, or know someone who does, and they have a car that doesn’t have an automatic starter? Get them one of these and watch the gratitude come back tenfold. Just look at me—I absolutely adore this product and I bought it for myself!
