Green Manalishi: Neil Tjin Builds a Genesis Coupe For SEMA

TJIN EDITION ROUNDS OUT HYUNDAI’S SEMA LINEUP WITH EXTREME GENESIS COUPEFor about a decade now, Neil Tjin has maintained his position as one of handful of go-to tuner/customizer/visionary types that manufacturers call when they are looking to infuse a product with some custom aftermarket sizzle. So when Hyundai wanted to remind the public that the Genesis coupe was still a thing, they knew where to look. And while neither Hyundai nor Tjin refers to the this SEMA-special Genesis as the “Green Manalishi,” we can’t look at the car in its bespoke Tjin Axalta Green paint and angry-eye squint without humming the Peter Green-penned ditty as performed by Judas Priest.

This is the first-ever Hyundai vehicle Tjin has prepared for SEMA, and the creator and his team looked to street racing for inspiration. In addition to the bespoke paint job, the Genesis features a modified front lip, trunk lid, and rear wing all provided by Unique Fabrication. LightWurkz and Safety 1st LED lighting handled the illumination duties. Rolling stock is comprised of 19-inch Rotiform three-piece HUR wheels wrapped with Falken AZENSIS FK345 tires; KW coilovers are fitted; and deceleration is handled by custom Baer CBA Extreme Plus calipers, pads, and 14-inch cross-drilled rotors, also from from Baer.

To back up the looks, Tjin called on Bisimoto Engineering for a Vortech V3 supercharger and cook up a the proper engine tune to handle the boost. Teamed with the fVortech intercooler and blow-off valve, and a Bisismoto free flow exhaust, the Hyundai 3.8-liter V-6 Lambda engine produces a claimed 500-plus horsepower. (We’ve seen the Genesis’ turbo-four motor  blown to ridiculous levels before, so it’s nice to see the V-6 finally getting some action.) The interior is said to feature plenty of leather, and a full roll cage from Unique Fabrication.

As SEMA cars go, this is pretty clean and restrained build. And despite the car’s obvious lack of, as the song says, “a two-pronged crown,” we maintain that Hyundai should crank Green Manalishsi when its wrap comes off the Tijn Genesis at SEMA on November 3.2015 SEMA Show Full Coverage
