Lotus Evora Roadster to Join Evora 400 Lineup in Mid-2016

2016 Lotus Evora 400 We’ve known for some time that, after its one-year hiatus from the U.S. market, Lotus will resume sales here this December with its more powerful and newly safety compliant 2016 Evora 400 coupe, which made its official debut in March at the Geneva auto show. We even know how much it will cost. Now, thanks to a report in Automotive News, we have learned that it will be followed six months later by a targa-style, open-topped version.

The Evora 400 roadster’s two-piece roof is said to be rendered in carbon fiber and will be manually removable, with the two halves stowable behind the seats. Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Automotive News that he expects equal demand for the Evora coupe and roadster models, with sales projections of about 500 apiece. “The roadster is the quintessential U.S. car,” he said, according to the report. “We are betting heavily on Florida and California with it.” 2016 Lotus Evora 400

The next product in the pipeline will be a “lighter, faster” version of the car, according to the AN report, and there’s also a crossover in the works (naturally). These signs of life at the “add lightness” company are certainly encouraging, but Lotus has let us down before, so we’ll believe these products when we actually see and drive them. Stay tuned.
