-As it always has been, Honda’s most recent Pilot crossover is a roomy, reliable, and understated family runabout. The Pilot’s three rows of seating mark it as a primarily suburban conveyance, but for the 2015 SEMA show Honda let two Pilots cut loose. Well, Honda cut them loose, than snatched them right back up and showered them in upgrades and accessories, thus creating two of the coolest 2016 Pilots around.

Pilot Black Edition concept

It may look sinister, but the “Black Edition: 2016 Honda Pilot” is really just a normal Pilot with a flattering smattering of Honda accessories. The lower front and rear bumper trim, door trim, running boards, black-painted wheels, grille, window trim, door handles, fog lights, and even the lug nuts are Honda parts, meaning it’s possible to closely replicate the Black Edition’s look with a factory Pilot. Neat.

Pilot Baja Desert Pre-Runner
–
With the next Ridgeline pickup hitting the SCORE Baja 1000 off-road series soon, Honda needs a support vehicle. Naturally, the automaker settled upon its three-row Pilot crossover. But a Pilot isn’t exactly a rock-bashing Jeep fighter when it comes to anything off-road, so Honda slapped on some bigger tires, a sweet racing-support livery, and a complement of bright nighttime running lights. The tall radio antennae suggests powerful communications equipment lives somewhere within, too.
