Audi Announces U.S. Pricing for Plug-In A3 Sportback e-tron

2016-Audi-A3-Sportback-e-tron-Euro-spec-PLACEMENTWant your tidy Audi hatchback in plug-in hybrid form? That’ll be $38,825, before adding any options, or knocking off any tax credits. The plug-in variant of the A3 hatch combines a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four producing 150 horses and 184 ft-lb of torque with a 102-hp electric motor. A maximum of 204 horses and 258 ft-lb is sent to the front wheels through a dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. EPA figures haven’t been released yet, but in our test drive of a European-market version, we managed a high of 48 mpg, but then again, we’re not know for our hypermiling. We’re betting that the EPA will rate the A3 Sportback e-tron at around 95 MPGe.

The e-tron model range starts with the $38,825 Premium spec, rising to $42,925 for Premium Plus and $47,725 for the top-of-the-line Prestige trim (all prices quoted include $925 destination fee). For most buyers, the A3 Sportback e-tron will be eligible for $4168 in federal tax credits, with additional incentives possible depending on your state’s fiscal enthusiasm for plug-ins.

Audi says the 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron will hit the U.S. market in October. Until then, if you’re searching for a thrifty Audi wagon-type thing, might we suggest the A3 Sportback in TDI trim?
