It wasn’t one of the industry’s better-kept secrets that Lamborghini planned a successor to the Gallardo Spyder, one which would be based on the still-fresh Huracán LP610-4. The wedge-shaped, open-air two-seater will bow at the Frankfurt auto show at around noon local time next Tuesday, and it’s sure to be a magnet for horsepower-mad attendees.

While most of the details are still secret, the model’s official designation has been revealed, which means we know it will definitely have all-wheel drive and how much horsepower to expect from the 5.2-liter V-10: the same 602 ponies summoned by the engine of the fixed-roof Huracán. (The 610 in the car’s name denotes metric horsepower, which converts to 602 on the SAE scale, while the 4 refers to four driven wheels.)

Even if you’re not a convertible lover, there is a specific reason to get the Spyder version of the Huracán: You will be able to lower the rear glass window even with the top up—which greatly amplifies the audible soundtrack of the untamed, un-hybridized, and un-downsized V-10.

The open-top Huracán will compete with its forthcoming platform-mate, the Audi R8 Spyder, as well as Porsche’s uplevel 911 cabriolets, the Ferrari 488 Spider, and the McLaren 650S Spider. Look for photos and further info next week.
