In the 1960s, Sports Cars Illustrated turned into Car and Driver—complete with its own advertising campaign!—reflecting a broader focus that in some ways mirrored the decade-long shift in American culture away from the uptightness of the ’50s. Our pages weren’t just filled with now-iconic vehicle reviews, you-are-there features, and pointed opinion pieces, however. Then, as now, we had to pay the bills, and the advertisers made sure to get their money’s worth by placing memorable ads in SCI and C/D. Some of those we’re featuring here were instant classics and some, well, weren’t, but all are definitely worth revisiting.
